| Mao didn't turn the country towards socialism after gaining power, he was a Communist Party member since it's early days of existence. He was able to win the war against the Nationalists BECAUSE he was a communist, because the vast majority of the country was so impoverished with no food or money that any attempts at liberal democracy based on capitalism would have failed miserably (and the Nationalists even tried it, so the Communists KNOW it would fail). | bombaykitty |
